Iran Joined the Five Countries, Producing Gallium-based Radiopharmaceutical

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - “Thanks to the efforts of Astan Quds Razavi, we joined the five countries, producing Gallium-based radiopharmaceutical” Head of Nuclear Science and Technology Research Institute of Iran announced at the unveiling ceremony of two radiopharmaceuticals, produced and improved in Razavi hospital.

Dr. Khalafi considered the entry into clinical use of the radiopharmaceuticals in the country as honorable and proud for the organization and stated, “Through the capacity available at gallium generator of this center, we can easily use this generator twice a day with the time interval of seven hours, and we hope to see substantial progress from now in this area in Razavi subspecialty medical center.”

“It is an honor that the preparation of these new nuclear activities has been done inside the country and in the Atomic Energy Agency as well as the Pars Isotope Company in order to allow the experts to produce the radiopharmaceuticals needed for the country” Deputy Head of AEOI of Iran added.

“Transportation of these light generators, weighing17.7 kg with a diameter of 11 and the height of 22 cm., is very easy, and since all of our treatment centers in the country are not equipped with a cyclotron, capability of carrying this generator and its mobility is the most important feature of that in order to be available to our medical community” Dr. Khalafi stated.

According to this official, radiopharmaceutical, which is made with the scientific name GA-Dota TATE 68 by radium, has many forms and is used in combination and can help in recognition problems.

“Fortunately, the knowledge to build this generator in our country has been localized, and for the first time last year, was unveiled at the exhibition in Hamburg, Germany, and today, we see the joint cooperation between producer and consumers of this domestic production” he continued.

“Companies from Germany, Netherlands, America, and Russia were the producers of this generator, and thank God, Iran has been known as one of the leading countries in this field and thirteen generators have been produced, of which eight have been operated inside the country until now, and we announce with honor that we exported abroad five other generators showing the high quality of generators” he said, mentioning that since last year and with the production of these radiopharmaceuticals, we joined the five leading countries, producing this radiopharmaceutical.

“Radiopharmaceutical GA-PSMA 68, which our professional coworkers in Razavi Hospital, have been honored to its production, is a radiopharmaceutical, which has been studied in North America and Europe since 2015, and recently, has been used in order to diagnose the prostate diseases, and this fact demonstrates that our scientific community, has truly put the saying "we can" to action and moves in the frontiers of knowledge” Dr. Khalfi stated.

“It must be admitted that the reason of the problems of enemies with Iran is the principle of self-esteem, and we are very glad that this activity in this territory of Iran is in progress, and this showed off the self-esteem more than before to the enemies of this territory” Dr. Khalfi said.

“On the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, fortunately, in the production of diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals and a number of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals with the help and participation of specialists in Nuclear Medicine Association of Iran, we have succeeded in the localization of manufacturing the world’s updated productions, and we must declare that the variety of kits being produced in Iran have raised the wonders of scientists and foreign experts” he also stated.

“Now, in addition to the fact that we are the manufacturer and supplier of major radiopharmaceuticals in the country, we are also the exporters of these products which with qualifying and standardization of our products, we are looking for entering the international market more seriously” Deputy Head of AEOI announced, saying that the products of the country's Atomic Energy Organization last year have been exported to the countries such as Austria, India, Pakistan, Germany, New Zealand, Egypt, and Iraq.

“In the year 2011, we were only the producer of a limited number of types of diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals, and at the height of sanctions, we utilized the abundant knowledge of our experts in order to produce these products in the country, and thank the grace of God, we overcame the social crisis, and we were placed among the exporters of these radiopharmaceuticals” he said.

“The production and distribution of radiopharmaceuticals and radioisotope kits as well as the production and distribution of medical radioisotopes are among the programs which the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran has in the field of health and treatment” Dr. Khalfi announced at the end of his speech.
